The Adam Chamber Music Festival is the most celebrated classical music festival in New Zealand and the Southern Hemisphere as well, taking place in Nelson every two years in February. In a period of ten days, world-renowned ensembles and performers from New Zealand and other parts of the globe come together for a program that makes Nelson one of the most celebrated locations in Australasia for classical music.

The festival enjoys an international reputation despite the relatively small stature of the town that hosts it, inviting world-renowned string quartets, pianists and other musical groups who visit Nelson not just to give performances but also participate in activities like open rehearsals and talks in order to interact more intimately with the local community. The mix of high calibre performances and approachable nature of the festival has made it a favourite event on Nelson’s arts calendar.

For the music enthusiasts who adore classical music, there are a couple of things that make them consider a visit to Nelson – apart from the city’s pleasant weather, artistic ambiance, and access to some of the most beautiful locations in New Zealand. Listening to wonderful chamber music played by top-notch performers in Nelson’s charming venues is definitely a memorable experience.
