The World Buskers Festival is Ōtautahi Christchurch’s signature celebration of street performance, circus, cabaret, comedy and spectacle. Held each summer, it transforms the city into one giant stage, with performances taking place across public spaces and indoor venues. Since its early years in the 1990s, the festival has become one of New Zealand’s best-known live performance events and a distinctive part of Christchurch’s cultural identity.

What makes the festival special is its mix of local talent and international acts, and the way it brings performance directly into the everyday life of the city. Audiences can encounter everything from acrobatics and clowning to headline ticketed shows, pop-up street performances and family-friendly entertainment spread across key Christchurch locations.

The World Buskers Festival has long played a major role in the summer atmosphere of the city, drawing visitors into the centre and turning public space into a place of surprise, humour and shared experience. For anyone who enjoys live performance with energy, unpredictability and a strong sense of place, it is one of Aotearoa’s standout summer festivals.
